Directions to plot and tree tag:
Take trail form Rocky Knob campground S to weather station. Hike E through meadow over knob. Go down E-running side ridge into disturbed forest, crossing barbed wire fence. Go down ridge at ~125 degrees, ~150m. Plot is ~25m, south off ridge on S-facing slope. Moved plot from original preselected location - away from edge of pasture but still on same slope. Tagged tree is a double trunked Quercus rubra of 53 & 67 cm dbh with tag # 430. Conduit is at a bearing of 340 degrees and 2.5 m from tree.
Plot location was pre-selected by the project's stratified random sampling design. However, Location was moved a little downslope to reduce edge effects from field.
Slope forest on edge of disturbed pasture. Canopy is mostly Q. rubra with Carya ovalis, Quercus prinus, Quercus alba, and Quercus x saulii. Very open shrub layer. Rocky substrate with Dennstaedtia punctilobula as patch dominant. Large red oak - many multi-trunked indicating past canopy removal.
